Miss Wyoming
Amy Ricker of Finite Films has adapted the novel and is currently working on the second draft of the sixth novel from bestselling cult author, Douglas Coupland.
Meet Susan Colgate - beauty queen, child TV star and, miraculously, the sole survivor of flight 802. If she were to walk away from the wreckage now, she could vanish and nobody would ever know....
Meet John Johnson - action-film star, occasional sado-masochist, junkie. In a near-death experience, John has a vision of a beautiful girl, and realizes that it's time to ditch the baggage of being famous, disappear - and find the girl who can save him...
Finite Films and Ammo Films (www.ammofilms.com) own the rights and are planning a British Canadian co-production.
Reviews
Coupland’s smartly written, satirical novel, animated throughout by his trademark exaggerated similes, takes a scalpel to various kinds of plastic American celebrity. He is remarkable good at entertainingly sending up the grotesque milieux from which his protagonists flee, and atmospherically depicting the altered perspectives they gain in flight.
Coupland manipulates Susan and John’s stories with devilish mastery...As John notes, you reach a moment in life when thereafter “it reruns”. For Coupland, the only way to break the loop is with love, and that’s exactly what his characters are holding out for.
An astonishing novel...To imagine characters such as these finding redemption through mutual love should be impossible. Except, of course, that it is what many of us spend our time imagining every day, whenever we pick up a copy of ‘Hello’ magazine or read a celebrity love story in a tabloid. This is Coupland’s genius. He creates concepts that allow us to get to grips with our unimaginable, real-life, end-of-the world news.’
The awful banality of American life is rendered with hilarious precision...A consistently enjoyable read
